Advantages and Disadvantages

There are many disadvantage and advantages to this type of job but the top 3 that have chose are :

Advantages
1.salary because the pay is really good once you have been doing it for a while so the amount you make would more than comfortable for you to live on

2. job outlook because the outlook for this job is out standing,for the only reason that there will always be someone with any type of breathing issue or condition, also because there will also be babies and elderly people and so they would usually need to a respiratory therapist more than one in their life.

3. variety of job tasks because throughout the day you are going to be moving around a lot so you wouldn't really be doing the same thing all day because you can and will be working with a lot of different patients and their respiratory needs will be different than others.

Disadvantages
1.working conditions would be a disadvantages because you would be working closely with patients that are really sick and the fact that even though you are walking around all the time going from room to room to check on your patients you are still suck in small room for most of your day.

2.hours because as i said before there aren't that many of them working in hospitals so that could mean that you are the only one working and because of that you might have to stay after hours and work longer shifts, you may even have to pull all nighters so that you are always available when a patient needs you.

3.you have to deal with the fact that you wont be able to help everyone that you encounter during your job, and as long that you know that you are doing your best that's all that matter at times.

Occupational Outlook

The job outlook for this job is very good, only because of the fact that not many people know what a respiratory therapist is. the job outlook for this occupation has grown so much over the past couple of years , this is because of the rise of respiratory diseases, especially with elderly people.Employment for respiratory therapists is expected to grow by 28% from 2010-2020 which is more faster than other occupations. Most jobs would be available in mostly hospitals and nursing homes because of the growth of middle aged and elderly people. Another reason why there a good out look for this job is because there aren't that many of them in hospitals, like in sick kids hospital they only have about 3 respiratory therapists for the whole entire hospital, which means by the time you get out of medical school for this that hospital will always be hiring for that position. 

Education Requirements

To become a respiratory therapist it requires a lot of schooling.before you get into a college to specialize in respiratory therapy there are a few high school courses you need to take first like :  and gr11 or 12 biology,and gr12 math, any gr11 or 12 chemistry and gr12 physics. the final mark need in these classes are a 65% average. Once you are in college/ university you will have to take a 3 year advance diploma program where you would learn the theoretical and practical components to respiratory therapy. in the first 2 years that you are in school you will learn are continuously learned upon. concepts about professionalism  analysis, problem solving and health and safety is learned through out the course. You get to do practical demonstrations, role playing, task training and high  fidelity simulation with computerized human patient simulators

Salary

The salary that respiratory therapists get differs depending on how long they have been working, where they are working and how long they work. for example someone that is just starting in this field would only make around $39,030 per year someone who has been doing it for a bit longer would make $54, 200 and a respiratory therapist that has been doing it for many years or is just more educated than the rest would make about $73, 920 and higher depending on what their duties are.     

Job Description

Respiratory Therapists assist patients of all ages who suffer from pulmonary (breathing) disorders. Being an expert in both cardiac and pulmonary care respiratory therapists sometimes have to work closely with specialists in pulmonology and anesthesia in various aspects care for the patients. They are specialists in air way management, which means that they maintain open airways during management of trauma, intensive care. Therapists are often responsible for initiating and managing life support for people in the emergency department and intensive care units. Some of the duties that they would have to preform in a day would be 1. determine requirements for treatment, such as type, method and duration of therapy and precautions to be taken. 2.set up devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas admissions. 3.Stabilize and monitor high risk patients being moved from hospital to hospital by air or land ambulances.
